Top 5 “Foreign” Restaurants in Jeonju!!! ❤️❤️❤️😋😋😋😆😆😆

I have been living and teaching in South Korea since 2009. That makes seven years now — which is almost a decade!!! 😳😳😳

I lived in Jeonju from 2009 – 2011. Then, I lived in Seoul from 2012 – 2016. Now, I am spending my last year in Korea back in Jeonju with my husband, and there is one thing that I’m really glad to see here — More. Food. Choices.

In 2009/2010, there were very few foreign food options in Jeonju for foreigners and locals. Most of the restaurants served only Korean food and the grocery stores had a very limited selection of “International food”.

These days, we can buy basic items like cheese and tortillas at Emart with no problem — Thank God!!! 😄😄😄😄 In the past, I would travel to Seoul on the weekends just to get some fluffy pancakes and flavorful Mexican food. But now, I can stay in Jeonju and enjoy a variety of menu items at home or when going out to eat. Yayyyyy!!!! 😄😄😄

I wrote a blog post several years ago about some great restaurants in Jeonju. Now, I’m proud to update this list with several other restaurant choices that are sure to please.

Jeonju has become a great tourist spot for visitors over the years, and here are a few restaurants that I would highly recommend to anyone visiting or living in Jeonju these days.

PLEASE NOTE: Things often change in South Korea. Restaurants often close down and/or move. These are some great restaurants as of September 2016. Please be aware that this information may change or may be inaccurate within one year.

One of my favorite restaurants in Jeonju is still Lemon Table. This restaurant was on my first list several years ago, and they now have two locations. I prefer the location in Jungwhasandong, but they also have a branch in the Chunbukdae area. The food, atmosphere and service are all wonderful and the prices are not too high. Lemon Table is a great place for friends, big groups, families and couples to enjoy pizza, pasta, salads and steak. My favorite menu items are: the mushroom soup, the mushroom or shrimp rose pasta, the grilled chicken salad and the ricotta cheese salad. The steak and pizza dishes are also good, however I would not recommend the burgers. Most of the workers there speak English.

Price Range: 15k – 20k won per meal

Location: Jungwhasandong — right next door to the Ssang Yong car dealership.

If you are in the mood for some fantastic Indian food, I would highly suggest that you go to Masala in the Hanok Village area. We ordered the curry lamb, aloo gobi, samosas and butter nann. Everything was divine and worth the high cost. Masala is a very small restaurant, and it’s easy to miss. However it’s worth the search to find it and eat there for lunch or dinner. All of the workers there speak English. Please note that they are closed every Monday.

Price Range: 20k – 30k won per meal

Check out their website, Facebook and Instagram pages for more information and the location:

When you want some quality Thai food, head over to Mr. Pad Thai. The chef there has lived in Thailand and has perfected his Thai food cooking skills. We ordered the spicy and mild pad thai noodles and both dishes were fabulous. The spring rolls were just okay and tasted store bought. However, the other thai dishes we saw looked authentic and tasty. This restaurant is small and fills up quickly. The chef is the only employee there, so you should go there solely for the food, not for the customer service. You place your order at the counter, he cooks it up for you, and then you pick it up when it’s ready. There are no servers available, so everything is set up like a small self-serve restaurant. He speaks English.

Price range: 10k – 20k won per meal

For some outstanding Vietnamese food, you should definitely go to Pho Ha Noi. I have tried the beef pho, spring rolls and the roasted chicken with rice entree. Everything was dynamite. The owners and the staff members are very nice and provide excellent customer service. This is a beautiful and modern restaurant with tons of space. Great for small or large groups. All of the workers there speak English.

Pho Ha Noi is located in the new Shinsigagee area near Primo Pasta (프리모파스타) to the left. I would also highly recommend Primo Pasta for excellent Italian food.

#5 PRIMO PASTA (프리모파스타)

When you are in the mood for excellent Italian food, you should go to Primo Pasta. It’s a great place with a nice atmosphere for romantic dinner dates. Excellent pasta dishes in the Shinsigagee area. Most of the workers there speak English.

Gamjatang is one of my favorite Korean meals, and there is an awesome Gamjatang restaurant in Junwhasandong. It’s located directly across from the Tom and Tom’s Coffee shop behind the flower shop and Holly’s Coffee shop (behind the same main street as Lemon Table). You can order small or large portions and they are open for lunch and dinner. For those who love Gamjatang (Pork bone soup), I would highly recommend that you give this place a try. None of the workers there speak English.

Jungwhasandong — close to the Ssang Yong car dealership.

Take a taxi to the Ssang Yong car dealership. Walk straight (away from the bridge) until you see Tom and Tom’s coffee on your right and Holly’s coffee on your left. Turn left at that corner (flower shop on the corner) — the Gamjatang Restaurant will be directly in front of you on the left.

Price range: 10k – 20k per meal

Jeonju is a very small city with limited eating choices. However, I’m really glad that the number of “foreign style” restaurants have continued to increase.

There is also an excellent buffet and Mexican style restaurant in the Gaeksa CGV Imax Building — if you want to try something new in the Gaeksa area. Just tell the taxi driver “Gaeksa CGV” — go inside the building and follow the signs to the restaurants there.

For a great American Style restaurant, try Mad Hungry in Shinshigagee. I have only tried the ricotta cheese fruit salad there. However, I have heard that their burgers and fries are amazing. You can also go there to play darts and pool. It’s a huge restaurant with a lively night atmosphere and a nice beer selection. Great place for small or large group gatherings after 5pm. I think they are only open for dinner. Check their FB page and Trip Advisor for more information. Search: Mad Hungry

In addition to great restaurants, there is also a really awesome foreign food store in Jeonju now called “Our Shop India”. I normally buy Tilapia, shredded cheese, sour cream and other items there that are impossible to find in Jeonju. You can place an order online or just walk in and look around. The owners are very nice and flexible. They will do their best to get whatever you may need, and they get new things in stock very often. They speak English, and they offer delivery service as well for online orders. Check out their website and Facebook page.

Happy Eating!!!! 🙂🙂🙂🙂 Tell them that Eve from Eve in Korea sent you!!!! 🙂🙂🙂😆😆😆
